Naast zijn liefde voor de Engelse taal en literatuur gaat zijn belangstelling ook uit naar de geschiedenis van de Tweede Wereldoorlog. En met name naar de Shoah. Naast schrijver en co-auteur van verschillende toneelstukken over dit onderwerp heeft hij ook drie historische werken op zijn naam staan. Eén over de Jodenvervolging in zijn woonplaats (Waar ze ook heen gaan, ze hebben in elk geval mooi weer, 2012), één over een Alphense arts die ook in het verzet zat (Pilon, arts en verzetsman, 2016). Zijn meest recente boek bevat tientallen verhalen van bewoners en medewerkers van de Martha-Stichting, een voormalig kindertehuis in Alphen aan den Rijn (Het Boek der Martelaren, 2017). De drie boeken die hij heeft geschreven zijn gebaseerd op de verhalen die mensen hem verteld hebben. In zijn woonplaats geeft Kees regelmatig lezingen en gastlessen over de onderwerpen die hem bezighouden.
