Tony, a South London schoolboy, is given the task of researching a local history project as he enters his final year of studies. At a loss as to what he can write about, he goes to his Nan who has lived her whole life in the community. In asking her about the past, Tony gradually uncovers a series of mysteries and secrets involving family, friends and various local characters, dating back over fifty years. As his research progresses, it becomes apparent that these various unanswered questions are all linked and have been left shrouded, initially by the horrors and tragedies of the Somme battle fields of the great war and then through the passing of time.
